Outdoor Kitchen – Phase I

The first Backyard Project is our Outdoor Kitchen.

I spent a few hours with some friends trying to determine the best design for the space we had – without having to add more patio. In the end, we had to add more patio – and as of this writing – I am probably going to add more.

We knew what grill we were going to buy so designed around that. Another requirement of mine was to have the grill at an angle – I like good aesthetics.

The sketches we drew to send back to the wife.

I flew down from school the weekend before Independence Day weekend so that I could pour the concrete to extend the patio to were I wanted to build the shell of the kitchen. Also, when we had the house built we had a Natural Gas line run outside – I was tired of running out of propane. Also, the temperature was close to 100 out.

Next, wait a week until I flew back down to start the framing. I had this great idea of using cinderblocks to build up the frame. After roaming around the Pinterest world in the week before hand – I discovered stainless steel framing – thank goodness I did – cinderblock would have been hell. The only issue with steel framing was quite a few cuts.. ha.

I have since put on the rest of the cement board. Left a hole for the drip tray and leaving the ability to add drawers at some future time.

To be continued….
